Prepare for thundering hooves, splintering lances and plenty of medieval excitement as four knights compete for glory in a grand joust.

Set within the historic walls of Carisbrooke Castle, this action-packed family event brings the drama, pageantry and spectacle of a medieval tournament to life.

What to expect

Choose your champion from four characters inspired by myth and legend: The Wyvern, The Wildman, Sir Lancelot and Jason of the Argonauts. Cheer from the crowd as they test their courage and skill on horseback, with reputations won and lost in the arena.

There’s plenty to enjoy beyond the main competition too:

• Watch impressive displays featuring birds of prey and expert falconers
• Meet Carisbrooke Castle’s entertaining jester
• Listen to traditional music while exploring the grounds
• Let younger visitors put their skills to the test in the junior joust

Your visit is also a chance to discover more of this remarkable fortress. Climb the Norman keep for far-reaching Island views, see where King Charles I was imprisoned, meet the famous Carisbrooke Castle donkeys and stroll through the Princess Beatrice Garden.

Event tickets

The event is suitable for everyone and admission includes entry to Carisbrooke Castle. Members of English Heritage can attend free, although they should reserve admission tickets in advance. Other visitors can save 15% by booking early through the official event page. Bring your booking confirmation or membership card on the day.
